FAQ
The questions people actually type in.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser. You can turn your wifi off once the page has loaded and convert anyway.
Why won't my AVIF file open?
AVIF is a newer format. Current browsers display it, but plenty of desktop editors, older phones and content systems still reject it, which is why converting to WebP or JPG is often the quickest fix.
Is WebP smaller than AVIF?
Usually not. AVIF generally compresses better, so converting to WebP is about compatibility rather than size. The tool shows both file sizes so you can judge the trade.
Does converting AVIF to WebP lose quality?
Both are lossy, so re-encoding discards a little data. At the default 80 the difference is normally invisible at ordinary viewing size.
Can I convert several AVIF files at once?
